Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo is the most famous square in Rome and is located in the historic center of the city. Surrounded by important historical monuments, churches and luxury shops, it has been a meeting and market place for ordinary people since the medieval period.
The square area was originally occupied by the large Circus Flaminius, used for horse racing and other entertainment during Roman times. In the Renaissance, the square was restructured to a design by the architect Valadier, who gave the area its current shape.
The square houses some of the most important monuments of the city, such as the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo, which preserves precious works by Caravaggio, the Mausoleum of Augustus, the Flaminio Obelisk, the Porta del Popolo and the two twin churches of Santa Maria of Miracles and Santa Maria in Montesanto. All these monuments bear witness to the great history of Rome.
Today, it is one of the main tourist attractions of the city and often hosts cultural events and public events. Very popular with tourists and Romans, it is also famous for its nightlife, with numerous bars and restaurants open until late at night.
The area surrounding the square is renowned for its high fashion shops, jewelers and luxury boutiques, where it is possible to purchase high quality products. In addition, the square often hosts local craft and antique markets.
The square is easily accessible thanks to its proximity to the underground station and the presence of numerous bus stops. Furthermore, the surrounding area offers many accommodation options, making it an ideal base for exploring the city of Rome.:
