Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel is one of the most iconic and evocative places in the Vatican and in Rome, and is considered one of the wonders of the artistic world. This sacred environment is located inside the Apostolic Palace and was built in the fifteenth century at the behest of Pope Sixtus IV.
The chapel is famous above all for the frescoes that decorate the ceiling and walls, created by the Renaissance genius Michelangelo Buonarroti between 1508 and 1512. The ceiling, in particular, is an absolute masterpiece: on it there are nine scenes from Genesis, including the creation of Adam, which constitutes one of the most famous and recognizable images in the world.
In addition to Michelangelo's frescoes, the Chapel also houses paintings by other great artists of the time, such as Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli.
The Sistine Chapel has been restored several times over the centuries, but its charm and beauty have remained unchanged. Every year, millions of tourists from all over the world come to admire this treasure of art and architecture, which represents an essential point of reference for Western culture.
